The UK Standard Visitor checklist we actually use

Most checklists online are generic lists copied from one visa blog to the next. What actually gets read by an entry clearance officer is a file — a sequence of documents that answer the same handful of questions, in order. This is that sequence, built the way we actually build it for UAE-based applicants, most of whom are residents rather than nationals, which changes what "ties to home" needs to prove.

Passport and purpose. Six months of passport validity beyond travel dates, the application form printout, and fee confirmation come first — this just establishes who you are. Then purpose of visit: an itinerary for tourism, an invitation letter and host's status for family visits, or an employer and UK contact letter for business. This has to match everything else in the file, or it reads as inconsistent before the officer even reaches your finances.

Accommodation and finances. A hotel booking or host letter with a matching address comes next. Then six months of personal bank statements — a stable, explicable pattern, not a spike. There's no official minimum, but funds covering roughly double the trip cost, sitting there well before the application, reads as comfortable rather than borrowed. A large, unexplained deposit right before applying is the single most common way a strong file turns weak — the Home Office calls it "parked funds."

Ties to the UAE. Because most clients are residents, not nationals, this page carries real weight: UAE residence visa, Emirates ID, and a salary certificate or NOC from the employer confirming role, salary, and approved leave. Property or business ownership here strengthens it further. This is the page answering the real question — is there a settled life to come back to.

What breaks a file isn't usually a missing document — it's documents that disagree with each other. A salary certificate says one figure, the bank statement shows another, the cover letter mentions a third. Individually small, together it reads as a file that wasn't checked before submission.
